Why different languages and studying abroad is worth it!

Why different languages and studying abroad is worth it!

Persuasive Speech, Anna S.K. @ LMAC, June 2013

The limits of my language are the limits of my world. that is a quote of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who is completely right with his argument. To know different languages and to have studied abroad will simplify your future!

Studying abroad, getting to know new people and learning an other language as well as another culture is not only going to improve your language skills, no, it’s improving you completely as a person!
Only knowing one language is not going to get you far, maybe you still going to have a successful life with your wife or your husband, but it wont bring you to a point where you are able to go wherever you want and to do whatever you want, because you couldn’t communicate with everyone. It is like Frank Smith says:
One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.”

The two following quotes are from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Geoffrey Willans: “Those who know nothing of foreign languages know nothing of their own.” and
You can never understand one language until you understand at least two.”
Like the both said, to really understand your own language, and to be able to get into it, you need to know at least two, if not even more.
Speaking only one language, is like eating only one type of food. It’s one-sided and it’s
getting  boring after a while!

As more languages a person learns and as more used it they are as easier it’s going to be to learn another one.  As well as if you make a big step you are getting very motivated to learn another one and another one.
As more languages you know, you will be able to make connections in its grammar or vocabulary words.
As well, you can communicate with people from different countries all over the world.

“I personally believe we developed language because of our deep inner need to complain. “ said Jane Wagner
Each language you know increases the number of people you can talk and complain to!
Like Charlemagne says To have another language is to possess a second soul., being able to speak a second language is opening new windows for everybody of us. Therefor spending a year abroad and being surrounded by another language and culture is the best you could do.
Francis Bacon said that: “Ipsa scientia potestas est”
which is Latin and means” Knowledge itself is the power.” Which relates to how important languages are, because in as more languages you can express yourself and make appoint, as more power you have.
But, as well, it depends on the languages you speak. In today’s life you might not get far if you are trying to talk to someone in Latin, but still Latin is a very important language to learn, because it will be easier to learn other languages, if you know basic Latin.
Some people might say that Latin is not an important language because it isn’t a spoken language anymore but it is the corner/foundation stone for all roman languages.
The people who know Latin have an easier time learning other languages then the others, this is a proven fact.
Knowing a lot of different languages, will help you to achieve your goals, especially if they are international. Going abroad for a couple of months or even years is just one of a lot of different things which help you to achieve a state of bilingualism/ internationalism.
Who doesn’t want to achieve his/her goals?
